Our Notre Dame Stadium Series Baseball Story & Inspiration:

Notre Dame Stadium is the home field of the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team in Notre Dame, Indiana. Notre Dame Stadium is recognized as one of college football's most famous and identifiable venues. Wow!

To start, Notre Dame was built in 1930 under the direction of Knute Rockne, widely recognized as one of the best college football coaches of all time, earning it the nickname "The House that Rockne Built." The Fighting Irish used to play at Cartier Field before the stadium was built. Over the decades, the stadium's seating capacity was almost 60,000, until a massive restoration from 1994 to 1997 added an upper bowl and over 20,000 extra seats, bringing the total capacity to over 80,000. The Campus Crossroads refurbishment in 2014 reduced the seating capacity to 77,622. The stadium has routinely sold out home games since 1964. Sold-out tickets. Whoah! That's incredible.

Notre Dame Stadium is one of college football's oldest, most recognizable, and famous venues. The mural of Touchdown Jesus is also visible from here. After 84 seasons on natural grass, the playing surface was replaced in 2014 with artificial turf. The playing field has a conventional north-south orientation at an elevation of 732 feet (223 meters) above sea level. Amazing!

To tell you more. The yellow sign with blue letters saying "Play Like A Champion Today." situated on a stairwell between the home team locker room and the tunnel to the field is one of the most distinctive and Historic aspects of the stadium. This sign dates back to 1986 when Lou Holtz came upon a photo of a Notre Dame player with the sign "Play Like A Champion Today" in a Notre Dame book.

Back in 1991, NBC, which had recently granted the institution its marquee TV deal, filmed the players hitting the sign as they entered the field, and it has since been a custom for players to touch it on their way out of the locker room. A list of Notre Dame's eleven national championships displayed above the sign. Notre Dame, you are the champions!
